Criminal Investigation Department (CID) members have rescued a man while begging at Hathazari Upazila of Chittagong, after around one year into the man’s reported abduction in Naria Upazila of Shariatpur.
The rescued man was identified as Hamiz Uddin Bepari, a resident of Dingamanik area in Naria upazila of the district.
Police confirmed after the man’s rescue that he had gone into hiding, and posed to have been ‘abducted’ to show his rivals a lesson.
CID sources said Hamiz had quarrels with one of his neighbours, Taher Bepari, over the construction of a road that goes through his land.
Hamiz filed a case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against Taher and his family members to stop the construction work of the road.
While the case was proceeding, Hamiz went ‘missing’.
Later, Hamiz’s wife Ayesha Begum filed a case with Naria Police Station against 18 people, including Taher, on October 5, 2015 on charge of abducting her husband.
CID sub-inspector Shariatpur Rajib Rahman said he came to know few days back from a source that Hamiz had been staying in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong district for the last one year and earning his livelihood by begging.
Later, CID members arrested Hamiz on Wednesday with the help of Hathazari Police and produced him before a court.
